ABOUT
Liberty’s Kids is a 40-episode animated television series originally broadcast on PBS from 2002 to 2003. It teaches a young audience (aimed at 7-12 year olds) about the origins of the United States of America by making life in colonial times relevant to today’s youth. Young, fictional characters are placed in adventures and stories surrounding historically significant events between 1773 and 1789, ranging from the Boston Tea Party to Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride to the signing of the United States Constitution.
Inquisitive journeys are seen from the perspective of the two main characters, Sarah, a British girl straight off the ship, and James, an established colonist. The two teenagers act as apprentice reporters, getting the scoop on the American Revolution while confronting issues that are still relevant to today’s politics, including freedom of the press, lower taxes, gun control, and race relations. Sarah and James are joined by friends they make along the way, including 8-year-old French immigrant Henri, and Moses, a former slave keeping watch over the kids for his employer, Benjamin Franklin.
Celebrity voice cameos include Walter Cronkite (Benjamin Franklin), Billy Crystal (John Adams), Michael Douglas (Patrick Henry), Whoopi Goldberg (Deborah Sampson), Dustin Hoffman (Benedict Arnold), Arnold Schwarzenegger (Baron von Steuben), Sylvester Stallone (Paul Revere), and Ben Stiller (Thomas Jefferson).
