About A Son: Kurt Cobain
It’s hard to believe that it’s been 14 years since the Nirvana singer shuffled off this mortal coil. On the day before what would have been his 41st birthday, Shout! releases Kurt Cobain About A Son, a mesmerizing film narrated by Cobain himself. The film features the recorded interviews given by the singer to rock journalist Michael Azerrad for the book Come As You Are: The Story Of Nirvana. Cobain’s voice is paired with scenery and images depicting the places he lived and things he spoke of. Together, these create a fascinating and insightful experience. Watch the trailer.

Comedy Mayhem From the Upright Citizens Brigade
It’s an election year, people. We NEED a good laugh! And that’s going to be the mission of Shout! Factory in coming months. On March 25 Shout will release UCB’s ASSSSCAT on DVD. A little history first: The Upright Citizens Brigade, which started in Chicago, has clubs in L.A. and NYC. They were so funny and popular and wonderful that Comedy Central gave them a TV series, which has achieved cult status. The series no longer tapes, but the show does indeed go on. Enter ASSSSCAT: The weekly Sunday-night show is free to all and features a weekly guest monologist, along with UCB players Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, Ian Roberts and Matt Walsh. Based on a suggestion from the audience, the evening’s guest ad libs a monolog, followed by improv sketches from the cast. Our DVD captures the comedy instigated by guests Tom Lennon, Kate Walsh, Will Arnett and Ed Helms. You may want to stay away from all foods and liquids during the viewing of this one, as it’s sure to induce heavy laughter.

Mike Birbiglia Speaks Up
You know how sometimes, when you hear a really funny story or joke, you find yourself laughing to yourself—or out loud—hours or even days later? That’s how Mike Birbiglia’s new DVD, What I Should Have Said Was Nothing: Tales From My Secret Public Journal, will hit you. Recently premiering as a Comedy Central special, this upcoming DVD release includes bonus concert footage as well as the “Strictly For Fans” documentary. Mike is also featured on the current installment of Comedy Central’s My First Time, which first aired February 8 but is frequently repeated. So when you feel that thing Mike said resurfacing in your mind, you’ll be able to pop in the DVD starting April 8. It’s all there for you to enjoy and share!

Father Certainly Does Know Best . . . This Time
The TV sitcom has come a long way since the Golden Age of television. It’s nice to be able to drift back to the olden days, when words like “olden” were in play. On April 1 Shout! brings the classic series Father Knows Best: Season One to the modern days, delivered on shiny round discs. The 4-DVD set features TV land’s introduction to the Anderson family: Jim, Margaret and their children “Princess,” “Bud” and “Kitten.” Bonus features abound on the set, including new cast interviews, “behind-the-scenes” footage and so much more.

Steve Purcell At Wonder-Con!
And finally, if you’re San Francisco-bound for this year’s Wonder-Con, you won’t want to miss Steve Purcell on Sunday, February 24. The Sam & Max creator will appear on a panel titled “Turning Comics Into Games You Want to Play.” In fact, the panel also features Sam & Max designers Mike Stemmle (Sam & Max Hit The Road) and Dave Grossman, Brendan Ferguson and Chuck Jordan (Sam & Max: Season Two). Single-day and three-day passes can be purchased on-site or in advance at http://www.comic-con.org. Look for Shout! Factory’s Sam & Max: Freelance Police – The Complete Series DVD in stores on March 11.
