MICKEY HART RECEIVES 2009 GRAMMY® AWARD FOR SHOUT! FACTORY RELEASE GLOBAL DRUM PROJECT: 2/9/2009

Los Angeles, CA – Shout! Factory is pleased to announce that music legends Mickey Hart, Zakir Hussain, Sikiru Adepoju & Giovanni Hidalgo won the 2009 Best Contemporary World Music Album Grammy® Award for their Shout! Factory release, Global Drum Project, during the 51st Grammy® Awards.

Global Drum Project, a fresh collaboration of tranced-out grooves, elegant electronic programming and hypnotic tuned percussion, was a return to collaboration between Mickey Hart and Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain, who won the first-ever Grammy® for Best World Music Album for their 1991 release Planet Drum.

Over three decades as the innovative percussion engine of the Grateful Dead, Hart's ear for global sounds brought numerous unpredictable guests to the Dead's stage performances. Hussain is an international phenomenon in his own right, who began his career as a child prodigy, founded his own record label, Moment! Records, and starred in two documentaries.

Masterfully produced by Hart and Hussain, the Global Drum Project once again enlists the great partnership of Sikuru Adepoju (Nigerian talking drum) and Giovanni Hidalgo (congas), as well as Taufiq Qureshi (brother to Zakir Hussain) on percussion & vocals, Niladari Kumar on sitar, Dilshad Khan on sarangi, and sampled vocals by the late, great Olatunji.

In addition to the Global Drum Project, Shout! Factory has also reissued a series of other Mickey Hart albums, including the Grammy®-winning Planet Drum, Diga Rhythm Band, At The Edge, Mystery Box, and Supralingua.

Also nominated for a 2009 Grammy® was Solomon Burke’s most recent Shout! Factory release Like A Fire, for Best Contemporary Blues Album.
