ROOM 222: SEASON ONE: 2/11/2009

Hot on the heels of the sweeping civil rights and Vietnam War protests, and prior to the births of acclaimed feature films and series such as Stand and Deliver, Dangerous Minds, The White Shadow and Boston Public, American television viewers were introduced to Room 222, a compelling show about life at a multi-racial Los Angeles high school and a group of dedicated educators who are unafraid to tackle some of the most inflammatory social and teen angst-oriented issues of that era. Created by the now-legendary James L. Brooks (The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Rhoda, The Simpsons), Room 222 boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Lloyd Haynes, Denise Nicholas, Michael Constantine, and Karen Valentine. This ground-breaking Emmy® Award-winning series left an indelible mark on television history and set the stage for the still-popular trend of high school-themed television series.

Marking 40 years after Room 222’s initial premiere on network television, Shout! Factory will release Twentieth Century Fox Television production’s Room 222: Season One DVD on March 24, 2009. Brimming with all 26 memorable episodes from the first season, this 4-DVD set contains exclusive DVD content, including all-new interviews with series creator James L. Brooks and cast members Denise Nicholas and Michael Constantine in a special featurette “Forty Years On.” Available for the first time and a must-have for collectors and TV-DVD fans, Room 222: Season One is priced to own at $34.99. Pre-book date: 2/24.

Room 222 premiered on ABC television in 1969 and topped the TV ratings from 1969 - 1974. Set during the turbulent time of the late 60s and 70s, Pete Dixon (Lloyd Haynes) is a dedicated and popular American history teacher who fights the good fight on the side of his students at Walt Whitman High School in Los Angeles. Joined in his idealistic approach to education are guidance counselor Liz McIntyre (Denise Nicholas) and student teacher Alice Johnson (Karen Valentine). Experienced and slightly world-weary principal Seymour Kaufman (Michael Constantine) provides a balance to the youthful idealism of the ’60s cultural revolution — but at the end of the day everyone is on the side of the students.

Season One guest stars include Teri Garr, William Schallert, Bob Balaban, Kenneth Mars, Bud Cort, Donald Moffat, Larry Linville, Beah Richards, Paul Winfield, Nancy Wilson, Bernie Kopell, Rob Reiner and more.
